Entain has joined forces with the McLaren Formula One team to introduce a professional growth initiative focused on assisting women in rejoining their careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
This initiative, known as “Return to Work,” is now accepting applications and will provide an initial ten positions for a six-month duration at either Entain or McLaren.
The program is structured to provide support to women at various stages of their professional journeys. Successful applicants will receive personalized transition guidance, encompassing topics such as re-entry into the workforce, adaptable work arrangements, networking with senior leadership, and exploring potential permanent employment opportunities following the program’s completion.
Available roles include software engineers, backend developers, data scientists, and design engineers. Eligible candidates must have been unemployed, underemployed, or engaged in retraining for a minimum of three months, possess at least two years of professional experience, and hold a STEM-related qualification or have experience or enthusiasm in technology, data, or engineering.
The introduction of this new initiative is grounded in recent research on women in STEM, which revealed that only 26% of STEM graduates are women and only 24% of the STEM workforce comprises women.
In terms of connections, the company stated that its own research indicates that 26% of global sports bettors are women, while a study by Formula One shows that 40% of fans are women.
The initiative will operate alongside Entain’s existing Reboot@Ivy program, which assists women in resuming their tech careers in Hyderabad, India, and Manila, Philippines. Moreover, the EnTrain program aims to enhance access to tech education and training and promote diversity, with a goal of positively impacting over a million individuals by 2030.
“The convergence of technology, sports, and entertainment, and supporting talented women returning to the workforce, means launching this brand new program with our partners McLaren was a natural decision,” said Entain CEO Jette Nygaard-Andersen.
“We are passionate and dedicated to providing a platform for women to rekindle their careers in STEM, and hope that through this program, we can not only support a generation of aspiring women but also motivate future generations of girls to pursue their STEM aspirations.”
The launch of the program also follows Formula One’s announcement last month of a new all-female Formula One racing series for young drivers, the F1 Academy.
McLaren Racing’s chief executive, Zak Brown, stated, “This presents an opportunity to truly revolutionize the fields of engineering and technology. It aligns with our objective to make STEM careers more accessible for all. Our aspiration is to have 40% of our workforce comprised of individuals from underrepresented groups by the year 2030.”
